What if we went on a cruise?

Msc Musica and Msc Seashore

January 2019: It's gray and cold. The children demand a lot of attention, and we are exhausted. A common desire to get away together to recharge and change the scenery!

At first, we thought about booking accommodation, maybe in Spain or Italy, where the sun starts shining in February and the greenery begins to come alive again. But the prices are high, and we want to manage nothing, not think about where to eat, where to shop, what to do today...?

That's when Fabien asked me the question that would change everything for us: "What if we went on a cruise?"

In my head, all the clichés are running through: "It's super expensive!", "It's for retirees!", "We'll be bored on a boat!", "It won't be relaxing at all with 5000 people around us!!"

But surprisingly, the prices are much more attractive than I thought, and meals are included in the fare.

Boarding a ship is leaving worries on land and not worrying about anything. We fall asleep in one city at night to wake up in another in the morning, or even in a new country. We travel leaving our toothbrush in the same place for a week. Relaxation is guaranteed! As for noise and crowds, it's quite easy to find quiet spots, whether on deck (in February, it's easy to find empty deck chairs even when the sun is shining) or in indoor bars or lounges, which are closed during the day but accessible for relaxation.

The best part of the cruise is, of course, the daily stops to visit a city or region. These visits are not included in the cruise package and can have a certain cost. But the vast majority of visits can be done freely and for free. When the ship docks directly in the heart of the city, all you have to do is disembark to explore the city on your own and return on board a few hours later with eyes full of wonder.

We were so impressed by this first cruise that we did it again the following year with our boys!
